On Saturday, 16th May members of Radcliffe and Bingham Chess Club organised the second annual Lithuanian Chess Challenge, an international junior chess jamboree where a visiting team from Lithuania competes with teams from schools and clubs from the south-east of Nottinghamshire. The event is the brainchild of RBCC member Julius Vasiliauskas who is still in touch with his old school chess coach.
Carnarvon Primary School in Bingham once again generously hosted the event and provided accommodation for our overseas visitors as well as administrative support and refreshments.
Overall, seven teams took part, Carnarvon’s strong first team coming out on top. RBCC’s juniors finished second, with our Lithuanian friends from Tauragė Šaltino Progymnasium in third place. RBCC’s Thomas Spolton and Noah Wright won individual prizes for their excellent performances.
The tournament received some nice write-ups in school newsletters…
